Art Club

Newly found in Spring 07 the ART CLUB provides all Jacobs University students with the opportunity to express their creativity, develop their artistic skills and explore art. So far we have organized field trips to museums in Bremen, drawing and painting classes as well as a unique chocolate sculpting session. Our most recognized event yet has probably been the "We are the World" body painting project as part of the Club Day 2007. For the future we are planning field trips to Berlin and Hamburg and a grand art exhibition in spring 2008. We will also explore new materials of artistic expression apart from color and pencil. Interested? Come to one of our regular meetings. We are looking forward to your ideas and input!
Current Project: Basics in drawing and painting
Next planned Trip: Exhibition "Bonjour Russia", Düsseldorf, December 8th-9th 2007

Meeting place: SAC Room 305
Meeting Time: Sun 17.00 - 18.00 & depending on announcement

Theatre Arts Club

The renewed Theatre Arts Club (formally the Theatre Club) focuses on the arts of performing, producing and experimenting within the realm of theatre.  Part of our activities are also aimed at enjoying and appreciating theatre here in Bremen, and hopefully another cities around.
However, our main aim this year is to create an independent and productive group, and a solid club that remains even after key members leave the university.

Project and activites for this year include wokshops (stage work, voice, body and mind, improvisation etc etc.) set up by myself and/or external guests and small and large productions. We are aldready working on a compilation of small plays by Anton Chekhov, and we have in mind a large project for next year, a play by Henrik Ibsen.

We are also planning on attending several plays produced here in Bremen and possibly Hamburg.

Motion Capture Studio

The MCS main activity is to help with the recording of on campus events. We mainly work on demand, but we have our own projects as well. Any club can contact us to record one of their events, such as the talent show, cid's, brimun, debate etc. We are currently trying to develop a project for next semester, that will consist of a short movie or an internet tv show. Last semester we were able to film a show that was broad casted over the internet to more than 200 students being a great success. If you like filming, being behind the camera, or you just love being on camera, then this is the right club for you!

Meeting place: CIII Conference Room
Meeting times: Usually Saturdays and before events

Music Club

The Club operates since 2001 and is one of the most active clubs on campus. The main goal of the club is to facilitate musicians of our community in practicing and performing. The aims of the club are rather diverse and flexible, but center around the idea of creating (bands), capturing (recording abilities) and facilitating (assisting and organizing) music related activities. We organize annual events such as the Acoustic Night, and one-time events such as musicals. We are interested in motivated musicians who have time and energy to play with others. We are also interested in recording artists for recording projects. There are no regular meeting times. We only meet in smaller groups based on interest and project. The meeting place is the music room (behind the IRC).

Pottery Club

As our name says we make pottery. Not just cups and bowls, but anything our creative members can think of. From welcome-signs to alien-sculptures, from flowerpots to decorated boxes, everything is possible. While creating our artistic and everyday usage pieces, while preparing Christmas presents or birthday gifts, we sit, talk and listen to music. Pottery involves more than creativity as many regular members, occasional guests and friends meet to distress from the hectic Jacobs life. Everyone is welcome to our sessions, be it beginners or advanced level clay-artists and of course once finished creating a piece one can take it home.

Moreover, in fall 2006 we organized our first exhibition. This was not just fun to organize but it was also a great way to show the Jacobs community what incredible capacity for expression lies within clay. This year the pottery club is involved in the Deepawali celebrations by offering a workshop during the pre-events on how to create traditional clay pots.  Also this December the PR-Club organizes an art day in which the pottery club will host a workshop.
We are confident that the workshop will continue to inspire and fascinate all those that dare to enter its doors.

Meeting place: SAC Room 108
Meeting times: Fri 19.00-21.00 & Sun (at diff. times.; check spams).

Jacobs University J-Capella Choir

The Choir was established in Fall Semester 2007, building on a student choir that existed since 2004, and has grown in the last one and a half years both in number of members and performances as well as in quality. Angela Postweiler, who conducted the choir during the last 12 months and is now focussing her efforts on her new responsibility as the conductor of the Bremer Domsingschule has created a joyful atmosphere that inspired everybody who likes to sing from all groups of the university - admin, faculty, staff, volunteers, and students. Our first and very successful performance outside campus took place on the 2nd of November 2008, at "Vokal Lokal" a concert series organized by the Kreischorverband Bremen in cooperation with the city library of Bremen.
Since November 2008 the competent musical leadership lies with Ms. Rucsandra Popescu, a choir teacher who lives in Bremen but completed her education as a choir conductor at the Music University of Bucharest, Romania, as the best graduating student 2004.
We have regular weekly rehearsals and have a growing repertory of classic, pop, et cetera and we are also always open for any suggestions
