Amnesty Club

Amnesty International is a non profit organization, with people from around the world campaigning for internationally recognized human rights for all. With over 2.2 million members who are outraged by human rights abuses, the organization strives for bettering the human rights situation though campaigning and international solidarity.
The Amnesty International chapter on campus treads on the same ideals as its parent worldwide organization while trying to spread awareness across campus along with taking actions via petition signing, letter writing, public demonstrations and the like. We coordinate our activities with the other groups in Bremen while striving to achieve internationally acceptable human rights.

The Literature and Arts Journal Club

Art Club

At a school like Jacobs, it’s hard to look past one’s pile of readers and computer screen to the more creative aspects of life. That’s why a small group of highly dedicated students have created the new Art Club – a place for people who love painting. A place for people who love messiness. A place for photographers, sculptors, cartoonists, and those “I am so not an artist” people who just want to get away from it all.
Art Club is not about being precise – meetings will happen sporadically, with email notifications of when future events will be held.

Meeting place: SAC, Rooms 302, 304.
Meeting time: email notifications

B-a-Link

B-a-Link is about getting involved and actively shaping our university experience into what we would like it to be. The activities we organize are diverse, ranging from the Leg Waxing Fundraiser and the Christmas Concert to the IRC Cheer-ups and the From the Inside Discussions. What they all have in common is that they are events that we as a group feel would contribute to campus life in a fun and meaningful way. At the beginning of every semester we sit down as a group and plan what we will do over the coming months. Everyone has an opportunity to put their ideas forth, to find support for those ideas and to support the ideas of others.
We are always looking for new, committed members so if you're interested, please don't hesitate to join!

BEaMS

In a rapidly shrinking world, companies are looking for people that understand the rest of the world as well as they understand their home countries. A perfect place where one can find such leaders is at Jacobs University. Furthermore, Jacobs University is a place of ideas, innovative students and professors are coming up with new concepts, technological as well as business-related. Be it a sandwich delivery service on campus or a spinoff company looking at producing cheap fuel using biotechnology. It is all happening right here.
The Business, Entrepreneurship and Management Society (BEaMS in short) recognizes this and also acknowledges the increasing interest among students to get increased exposure to the industry and world of business.

Comedy Sportz Club

The Comedy Sportz Club provides a platform for comical, improvised theatre that is presented in a competition between two teams. Both of them strive for the audience's applause in order to score points. The name of Comedy Sportz derives not only from the athletic appearance of the game, but also from a spirit of fairness (i.e. the boundaries of humour are defined by the audience's and opponent's dignity-which can be flexible at times). The general goal of this club is to entertain both members and audience in a refreshing and involving way (suggestions by the audience are vital to the games). If you are interested in either shows or joining the club, feel free to contact us.

J-Cappella (Jacobs University Choir)

The Choir was established in Fall Semester 2007, building on a student choir that existed since 2004, and has grown in the last one and a half years both in number of members and performances as well as in quality. Rucsandra Popescu, a professional composer and choir conductor, has been the musical director of J-Cappella since November 2008. She has created a joyful atmosphere that inspired everybody who likes to sing from all groups of the university - admin, faculty, staff, volunteers, and students.
In the past years we performed at many occasions on-campus, for example the annual openning ceremonies, the graduation ceremony, at our own Spring and Christmas concerts and many other events. However we also have had major appearance off-campus, like our performance on the 2nd of November 2008, at "Vokal Lokal" in the city library of Bremen, or on November 9th 2009 at "Sichtweisen" in the Glocke, alongside multiple performances at Christmas markets in Bremen-Nord and downtown. Currently we are rehearsing Beethoven's 9th symphony which we will perform on the 30th of January 2010, again in the Glocke together with the Philarmony of the Nations and the Brahms Chor of Hochschule Bremen.

Investment Club

Established in 2003, the Jacobs University Investment Club aims at providing theoretical and practical knowledge in finance, with particular focus on Investment Banking, to undergraduate and graduate students at Jacobs University Bremen. The ultimate goal of the club is to help its members towards a successful future career either in Finance or Business. With its many active members, the club is currently one of the largest career-oriented clubs on campus.

We have developed a number of specialized activities both to expand our practical experience and to serve investors interested in Emerging Markets. The continuously successful Equity Research Projects have encouraged us to take up new challenges. Resulting from that, our current goal is to start a student investment fund, which would enable the club members to apply their equity research knowledge in making investment decisions. The first step in establishing such fund is to manage a virtual portfolio in 2009/2010 academic year.

Model United Nations Society

The Jacobs University Model United Nations Society is proud of being one of the largest societies represented on our campus. Our members vary in their degree of expertise, including students with a longer MUN career that started in high school and total beginners. Moreover, - thanks to the international character of the University - the society's members come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. This diversity in membership stimulates highly interesting and authentic debates.
The MUN Society at Jacobs sees its main task in providing its members with the tools for good diplomacy. These involve excellent rhetoric and presentation skills, a thorough understanding of the rules of procedure utilized at the United Nations, expertise in the method of resolution writing and, of course, a thorough knowledge of the countries represented.

Radio Club

The Radio Club wants to foster mutual understanding between characters, that seem so different in their lifestyles and behavior, and yet, whose hearts may beat for the same dreams and interests.
Education, exchange, entertainment, escape from the routine - these principles serve as a guide for the Radio Club, to make this place a place of critical, enthusiastic, open-minded, revolutionary, music loving students.
We want to engage in real intercultural exchange via music and news coming from all the places our listeners come from.
A clear anti-racist and anti-discrimination position has to be inherent to all people directly involved in the Radio Club and to works produced and broadcast within the club.
We want to inspire, engage in debates and foster engagement in discussions.
The Radio Club will hold regular meetings on Sundays, 10 pm in Mercator College Office Conference Room or the Radio Room. We look forward to the change we can make.

UNICEF-club

Our UNICEF-club serves to raise awareness of the difficult situations kids face around the globe everyday. We want that people remember that for some of them life is a real struggle and that they need support. If they can’t get it from whom they should get it, well, we think we could give it a try.
We can’t work wonders, but what we can do is to inform, support UNICEF actions through fund-raising and to bring some happiness to children living under poor conditions in Germany.

„Bitter are the tears of a child: Sweeten them. Deep are the thoughts of a child: Quiet them. Sharp is the grief of a child: Take it from him. Soft is the heart of a child: Do not harden it.“ (Pamela Glenconner)
