Attention incoming students

If you want to sign-up for a Mentor, please visit the Mentor Sign-up page.

General

You will be the first contact a student has on campus other than admissions people. You have a great chance to make a positive impression and influence their image about Jacobs and our graduate community. It's best if you are available on-campus during all of O-Week August 24-29, 2009. Besides the training session, GSA also will be sponsoring a event for all advisees right before O-Week. If you live on-campus, you will be allowed to move in early.

Final O-Week Schedule for Mentors (updated Aug. 24)

A typical Mentor experience may unfold like this...

  • Once you have signed up we will be contacting you regarding the first info session in the Spring and later with the name of your mentees.
  • Your first move can be contacting them during the summer by email and inviting them to attend O-Week events.
  • Familiarize yourself with the O-Week schedule and plan what events you can attend with them and encourage them to attend anything that may be interesting.
  • If they need it and you are willing, you can pick them up at the airport or train station and take them to their new living quarters. Or you can meet them downtown and escort them to campus.
  • Once you get all of your mentees together, you can give them a campus tour or even a Bremen City tour.
  • You could definitely at least meet them all for a GSA sponsored lunch in the severies or the Friseur.
  • Throughout, please remember to remain friendly and helpful. If you encounter a problem with your mentee or are overwhelmed with their questions, don't hesitate to contact us!
