Orientation Week 2009

Tuesday, August 25th

  • 7:00-22:00 The GSA board runs a welcome desk in Reimar Lüst Hall for incoming graduates, where every incoming graduate students will receive his/her welcome package
  • 12:00-14:00 Lunch with Graduate Mentors (Don't have a Mentor? Click here, it's not too late!)
  • 14:00-18:00 we will have a coffee break in the GSA Lounge where you can meet GSA members and get housing help
  • 20:00 Welcome party at the student bar "The Other Side" (star)

Wednesday, August 26th

  • 9:00-9:15 Welcome Address to New Students by university leadership in the Conference Hall of the Campus Center, followed immediately by...
  • 9:15-10:00 Introduction to Student Life by student government and CAIA. Step outside for...
  • 10:15-10:45 Photo of all incoming students. And back into the Conference Hall for...
  • 11:00-12:00 Information Session on Campus life for graduates
  • Don't forget to visit the Registrar's Office to pick up your residence permit and sign some necessary forms!

Thursday, August 27th

  • 9:00-10:00 Intro to Schools by Deans in the Conference Hall, followed by...
  • 10:00-11:00 Intro to Off-Campus and Bremen life for graduates
  • 11:00-13:00 Safety Instructions. Your university account will be blocked if you don't attend!
  • 16:00-17:00 SHSS (Research IV:IR - Meeting Room, IH - Multi-Purpose Office, GVC/ISS - PIAV Archive 71 and SES (Research II) receptions.
  • 16:30-18:30 Language Placement tests (check full Orientation Week Schedule).
  • 19:00-23:00 5th Annual Reception in the GSA Lounge, one of the biggest grad-only parties of the year! Food and drinks will be served. (red star)

Friday, August 28th

  • 9:00-11:00 "IUB Rocks" on the Krupp Terrace
  • 13:00-19:00 Thriving and Surviving at Jacobs (intercultural workshop). See your invitation!
  • 20:00 Pub Crawl Downtown Bremen. Meeting in front of main train station, first stop is Patty's Pit across from station. Contact person Marco Meier ( (red star) updated time!

Saturday, August 29th

  • 15:15-15:45 Meet the Alumni in East Hall
  • 17:00-18:00 Students meet host families. (Don't have a host family? Click here!)
  • 18:00-20:00 All University BBQ (green star)
  • 20:00 Welcome back party in Halle 3 (star)

Sunday, August 30th

  • Afternoon Bremen City tours (see your welcome package)

Monday, August 31st

  • All Day Meet with your academic advisor (assignments will be posted in the forum of the CC)
  • All Day Library and IT tours in the IRC

Tuesday, September 1st

  • 9:00-14:00 Annual Opening & Matriculation Ceremony in the Cinema
    • Also a community standards workshop!

Our Graduate Housing Coordinator will be on hand in the GSA Lounge to provide housing advice.
