Teamwork update results

The recent teamwork update update provides

with several new features. The most interesting are:

People Directory

All users (who have logged in at least once) can be found in the "People Directory" on the

. This also allows to easily see, who has created a personal space (though, it doesn't indicate if you have the permission to view it). This rectifies the issue described in Users' personal spaces are not listed on the Dashboard.

Page Permissions

It was possible to reduce visibility of pages (and their children) in the previous version to oneself. Now, it is also possible to assign view and edit permissions to individual users and groups.

Visibility

Previously, Anonymous Users can view Space, but logged-in Users can't. This has been corrected. The information accessible by anonymous users are now also available after logging in.

Usability

Upon entering a link into a page in Wiki notation, the search dialog now lists news items as results, too.

On Thursday 28 June 2007 between 07:00 and 08:00 local Bremen time servers and network components will be updated.

Server and network operations will be unreliable. Expect unavailable servers and sudden downtimes of services without prior explicit announcement.

If you have to work on files stored on the server during that time, then before the maintenance hour copy the respective files to your local hard disk, work on it locally, and after finishing your work and after the end of the maintenance interval, copy them back onto the server.

CampusNet (web and client) and teamwork will be unavailable on Monday, July 2, 2007 from 08:00 to 10:00 due to maintenance of the database.

On Saturday, June 30, 2007, the Jacobs University Email system will be updated. Therefore, it will not be available between 10:00 and 16:00.

During that time, access to stored emails and sending emails will not be possible. Incoming emails will not be lost but delivered afterwards.

Sending emails will be possible during that time.

To overcome the increased amount of spam received at out mail servers, we have introduced some additional rules for accepting or denying incoming mail.

Please have a look at the following page for a technical description of the current configuration: Anti-SPAM measures at Jacobs University Mail Servers

A side effect of this measure is that mail from certain remote senders is not accepted anymore. These senders receive a notification that their mail has not been delivered and why that happened.

The mail server - here fmmailgate05.web.de - tried to deliver a mail to j.doe@jacobs-university.de. As the mail server fmmailgate05.web.de was listed as spam source at that time, our mail server hermes.iu-bremen.de did not accept the mail and gave the cause, that the "client host" fmmailgate05.web.de was blocked using this list, and that there is further information by following the supplied link.

The mail client did not supply a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) with the HELO command, as requested by the SMTP standard RFC2821

There is no reverse name mapping for the IP address of the delivering mail server. This is not requiered by RFC2821, but it is best practice to deny mails from such sources. Most often these machines are pirated PCs from dial-up networks. If your party is sending from a "safe source", he/she should contact their local postmaster for help.

504 <vortex>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname

The mail client did not send a FQDN with the helo command. If you are using MS Outlook and receive this answer after sending a mail, please configure your Outlook for authentication during sending mails. There is a HowTo, steps 11 and 12 are the most important ones.
