The server admin01 will not be available due to hardware errors of an unknown extent. We expect the downtime to be until 4 p.m. today, Fri, Jul 30th.

On August 4 2010, between 05:00 and 06:00 a.m., Jacobs' internet access will be down for about 10 minutes due to updates of backbone routers by DFN, Jacobs University's internet provider.

On Thursday 29 July 2010 between 07:00 and 08:00 local Bremen time servers and network components will be updated.

Server and network operations will be unreliable. Expect unavailable servers and sudden downtimes of services without prior explicit announcement.

If you have to work on files stored on the server during that time, then before the maintenance hour copy the respective files to your local hard disk, work on it locally, and after finishing your work and after the end of the maintenance interval, copy them back onto the server.

This unscheduled maintenance is neccessary due to low hardware ressources wich will be upgraded and an array of available updates for the complete system.

The hardware upgrade and all updates were successfully installed and the server and its services are fully up and running again.

The server Admin01 is occasionally unresponsive wich effects printing and access to files stored on the public drive on Admin01.

Suggestions for improvement are welcomed.

The equipment in the computer science teaching lab (aka computer science teaching hall, aka mathematics teaching hall, aka Res.I lecture hall, aka Res.I Room 52) will be exchanged before the upcoming fall 2010 semester.

The seven year old Solaris server-based installation will be exchanged for disk-less and fan-less desktop clients with 21" monitors. For lectures, the systems will operate as Linux-based desktops, though the disk images are streamed over the network, and are centrally administered.

Usage of the room as "Internet Café" or for Windows-based courses will be possible.

Within this project, the viewing stations in the IRC library will be exchanged for new systems, too.

The setup has been harmonized between CSEE, CLAMV, and IRC.

The hardware infrastructure setup in the Project IT Infrastructure Development (PITID) about 18 months ago has reached a magical number: there are currently 100 virtual servers installed on only four physical hosts. The number of (virtual) servers will continue to grow.
