Blog from November, 2010

Due to a space problem on the mailserver mails for all students are currently delayed.

We expect the mailflow back to normal in ~1 Hour.

Update 14:40

All queued emails are delivered, email reading is back to normal.

On Thursday 25 November 2010 between 07:00 and 08:00 local Bremen time servers and network components will be updated.

Server and network operations will be unreliable. Expect unavailable servers and sudden downtimes of services without prior explicit announcement.

If you have to work on files stored on the server during that time, then before the maintenance hour copy the respective files to your local hard disk, work on it locally, and after finishing your work and after the end of the maintenance interval, copy them back onto the server.

For more details on the maintenance hours see the Maintenance Hours page.

Access to emails is currently (Nov 4 2010, 4pm) broken. This affects Outlook clients and the web interface. pop and imap is working, but sending emails is problematic.

Update 19:00

Email, calendars, web access are back up since ~5:30pm, with some quirks, and as of 7pm are working okay again.

Update 08:00

POP3 was unavailable until 08:00 this morning.

Outlook 2003 clients using "Exchange connector" to the email server currently have connection issues regarding access to other user's calendar.

A workaround is to add the other user's mailbox to one's own mailbox view via "Tools" menue.

Please contact Service Desk for Faculty and Staff if you need assistance or to discuss upgrade options to a more current Outlook version.

On November 04, 2010, ~between 11am and 11:30am the connection between internal email systems were interrupted.

During that time, incoming external emails might have been rejected with a message to the sender, and some internal clients could not connect to the server to send emails.

After some delay, all mailboxes have been migrated to the interim email server, cf. Migration of mailboxes to interims mailserver

The next phase is to decommission the previous email system. Though this should have no noticeable impact on email clients or email delivery, please be not surprised if something unexpected happens, like spontaneous loss of email server connectivity or delays in connecting to the server.

If issues persist, please contact Service Desk for Faculty and Staff.

Note: during this step, there is no server renaming. Server names in all applications should always be and stay exchange.jacobs-university.de (as has been and will be). Some clients (e.g., Thunderbird, iPhone?) may not recognize the redirection and required re-configuration of the server name to read xchange.jacobs-university.de. For more configuration information, see Irregular email maintenance 07.09.2010 starting 2000.

Over the halloween weekend 2010, resources of the interim email server had been exhausted and emails were delayed or rejected.

Operation is now back to normal.

Since saturday we are running the Confluence version 3.4. Since 3.3 the so called 'Left Navigation Theme' is deprecated and no more included in the base package. We installed this theme as a plugin so you can continue to use it.

If you where using the Left Navigation theme in your space you can reenable it under space admin.

But please keep in mind that the Left Navigation Theme will dissapear in one of the next versions completly. Atlassian suggests to use the new documentation theme,
