Due to a misconfiguration our students received a more generous email mailbox quota than planned for some time, 1,5GB instead of 1GB. Fixing this misconfiguration let to some of our students no longer be able to use their mailbox, as they were now over the new (old) quota.
To fix this situation, and to say we are sorry, we increased the mailbox quota for all students to 2GB!
To further enhance our email service, we will migrate all student mailboxes to Exchange Online as part of our Microsoft Office 365 for Jacobs University service in the near future. This will increase the quota even further to 50GB and give all the benefits of Microsoft's data centers.
We do have a data processing agreement with Microsoft according to EU standard model clauses checked by our Datenschutzbeauftragter (Data Protection Officer). However, the Exchange Online mailboxes will no longer be included in our local backup.
