Jacobs University offers advanced beyond-telephony services to its employees. The features are currently in a roll-out phase. All features are accessible world-wide (campus included :-), without additional configuration or VPN setup.

Employees interested in Jacobs Unified Communications, including web control of telephone features, telephone conferences, video and web collaboration, arbitrary telephone device support, call rules, mobile call and conference control, and other features, please contact Service Desk for Faculty and Staff to discuss your phone migration.

Additional Account Required

You will need an additional Jacobs UC username and password to access these features! This is not your JACOBS account!

The Jacobs UC account is distributed by Service Desk for Faculty and Staff upon migrating your telephone access.

Access to the Web Interface

The web interface to Jacobs Unified Communications (aka Jacobs UC web interface) is https://webuc.jacobs-university.de/

Audio Conference Bridge Dial-In

The dial-in number of the conference bridge is +494212004141

Setting up and running an audio conference is done with the Jacobs UC web interface. Access credentials for conferences are distributed by the conference organizer by email (or whatever other means). Invitation emails generated by Jacobs UC system include all required access details.

(tick) An Outlook plugin is available to plan an audio or collaboration conference from within the Calendar view of Microsoft Outlook on Windows! The plugin is distributed by Service Desk for Faculty and Staff.

Collaboration Conference Access

Full-featured access is via client for Microsoft Windows-only, distributed by link in the invitation email by the conference organizer. The link to the client is conference-specific and only valid for that particular conference.

Web-based "passive" client access is via https://fastviewer.jacobs-university.de/ This web access needs a session id which is only available after starting the conference and will be distributed by a moderator within the audio conference or by email.

Additional Account Required

You will need an additional Jacobs SIP username and password to access these features! This is not your JACOBS account nor your Jacobs UC account mentioned above!

The Jacobs SIP account is distributed by Service Desk for Faculty and Staff upon migrating your telephone access.

The Jacobs soft phone will be installed by Service Desk for Faculty and Staff. This is the only client, which ensures privacy and security by not only encrypting the initiating data connection, but also encrypting the voice communication. It also nicely integrates the web interface for call control. The Jacobs soft phone is only available for Microsoft Windows.

Other SIP softphones will also work. Most requires fuddling around with options to test, which setting actually does work. Some won't work at all. This changes from client to client. Please test your preferred client yourself. Internal tests showed, that Blink on Windows and Mac OSX works best.

You need to set the following configuration data. For the transport layer, several alternatives are given, all are supportes by Jacobs' system, but not all options work equally well on each client. Again, you need to test this yourself.
