Service Desk for Faculty and Staff can use software to remotely access the desktop of users. This requires the user to voluntarily start a software client to allow remote access to the desktop. This use is sanctioned by the Datenschutzbeauftragter (Data Protection Officer):
Data Protection Aspects of TeamViewer Quick Support Client installation and operation of TeamViewer Quick Support Client ensures your data protection rights comprehensively: The software can only operate upon YOUR installation and upon YOUR request (it must actively be launched) - there´s no background activity of any kind, no logging or other background data processing. You have full control about the application since it generates one-time-passwords for each session. YOU must provide this one-time-password to the respective supporter - and YOU can terminate each session freely. The supporter only has access to your client with your consent and as long as you wish.
Client for Windows
Try in this order:
- run C:\TeamViewer\TeamViewerQSJacobs.exe (only on JACOBS domain computer), or
- run J:\Software\Public\application\teamviewer\TeamViewerQSJacobs.exe (only on JACOBS domain computer), or
- run \\storage.jacobs.jacobs-university.de\fileshare\Software\Public\application\teamviewer\TeamViewerQSJacobs.exe (only within Jacobs Network), or
- Download and Run Client from Jacobs Teamwork, or
- Download and Run Client from the vendor's web site.
Upon downloading from web, you'll be asked, if you want to Run or Save the file. Click "Run" here:
After download and verification, you'll be asked, if you really want to run this software from "TeamViewer GmbH". You can click "Run" here, or click "More options" to not being asked next time:
If you've clicked "More options" in the last dialog, you can now prevent this question next time by clicking "Always run software from "TeamViewer GmbH"":
After running the quicksupport client, a dialog opens. You might want to check the options by clicking on the icon at the top right, before giving the ID and Password ("Kennwort") as highlighted in the following screenshot to the remote supporter via phone:
A secure connection is then established between your computer and the desktop supporter's computer.
Client for Linux
There is no IRC-IT support for Linux systems and applications at Jacobs University!
There is no quick support client for Linux.
Download, install and run the full client from http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx?os=linux
The client is in beta stage. Use at your own risk.
Client for Mac OSX
There is no IRC-IT support for Mac systems and applications at Jacobs University!
Download and run the Quick Support executable.
